The genesis of Word of Mouth started in 1989 when we met while cooking at Marbles Restaurant. It was an exciting time for Wellington’s emerging food scene and Marbles was a landmark dining experience, under the ownership of Ruth Pretty and David Jordan. We went on to start our own catering business, in an unused kitchen in Bond Street in 1989. Five years later, we found a great location in Molesworth Street so packed up our kitchen and set up shop in the heart of Thorndon.
The new premises allowed us to showcase our food in a cafe setting, as well as as expanding our fast-growing catering business. That was more than 20 years ago and, we’re delighted to say, this successful combination of cafe and catering continues today.
